“It’s nice to be recognized. It makes you work harder to reward the people who have contributed to your scholarship.”
National Hispanic Scholar
UNL Undergraduate
As a National Hispanic Scholar in high school, Richard Cantril had his choice of a number of colleges. After visiting Nebraska and many others, the senior business major from Scottsbluff chose the University of Nebraska–Lincoln.
“Every time I visited Nebraska I felt the Midwest hospitality,” he said. “Everyone was very nice. And one thing that really stood out was how they all remembered my name. That was different from some other places I went.”
Always interested in business, Rick participated in DECA in high school and plans to go on to get his MBA after graduation.
Not having to work due to his scholarship has enabled Rick to give back to the
university by assisting in teaching classes at UNL. He sees his scholarships as both recognition for hard work and incentive to work even harder to reward the investment others have made in his education.
