World-renowned chest radiologist Jud Gurney passed away March 18 after a short battle with cancer. The longtime faculty member in the Department of Radiology at the University of Nebraska Medical Center was revered by colleagues and students as a dedicated radiologist and passionate educator.
In 2002, Dr. Gurney was named the Charles A. Dobry Professor of Diagnostic Radiology.
Earlier this year Dr. Gurney, a graduate of the UNMC College of Medicine, received the Silver Medal Award given by the Nebraska Radiological Society. With its highest honor, the Society recognized Dr. Gurney’s service, quality and excellence and his professional and personal attributes. To honor his legacy the UNMC Department of Radiology seeks private support to help establish a $500,000 endowed professorship in his name. The Jud W. Gurney Professorship will allow Dr. Gurney’s legacy to continue while helping attract and retain top-level faculty and academic leaders.
