Banking on Community: How a Scholarship Helped Hewitt Moyer Pursue his Passion

By Anika Keese ’27

Hewitt Moyer grew up in a world of finance. From a young age, Moyer’s mother and grandfather taught him the importance of financial literacy.

As he went through school and started dreaming of what his future could look like, the path was already paved.

“I live in Kearney, grew up in Kearney — it’s not a big community,” Moyer said. “A lot of my mom’s customers in the bank were rural farmers. The way she could give back to some of those people really influenced me to follow this path.”

His mother’s encouragement helped him see his own potential, even when he doubted it.

The desire to serve others has shaped Moyer’s goals. He is passionate about pursuing a career in banking that centers on selflessness.

“The banking industry has meant a lot to me because of how it impacts communities — financially sponsoring Little League teams, hosting community events … that’s what I hope to follow and make a difference,” Moyer said.

Moyer’s family wasn’t the only support system moving him forward. Through donor generosity, he received scholarship support through the UNK Fund – Student Scholarships.

Without the support from donors and the UNK Fund – Student Scholarships, Moyer would not have received the support he needed to fund his college education. This scholarship allowed him to be stress-free while connecting with other like-minded students.
