UNMC Williams Scholar Andrea López Mercado grew up in Lares, Puerto Rico, and was living in the town when it was hit by Hurricane Maria in 2017. She was inspired to pursue a Doctor of Pharmacy degree after witnessing the kindness of pharmacists in the storm’s aftermath.

Simulators provide a controlled environment for learning to fly an aircraft or drive a car. In health care, visualization and simulation technology is teaching students to treat patients safely.

Ron Braun, M.D., is a 1965 graduate of the College of Medicine at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. He and his wife of 64 years, Pat, have been loyal supporters of UNMC and the College of Medicine for more than 55 years. In addition, they have included the University of Nebraska Foundation in their estate plans to keep UNMC at the cutting edge of medical technology. A noble effort is underway to turn the tide against pancreatic cancer. The initiative is led by recently recruited Sunil Hingorani, M.D., Ph.D., who aims to find a cure for this lethal disease.
