For Amanda Landaverde, receiving a scholarship to the University of Nebraska College of Law was more than financial assistance. It provided an opportunity to pursue a future she was not sure would otherwise be possible.
After moving to Lincoln from San Francisco in 2019, Landaverde was working as a social worker for the state when she decided she wanted a new career path. Although she was interested in law school, the financial commitment made the decision difficult.
“I would not have likely attended law school at all without a substantial scholarship,” Landaverde said. “The scholarship allowed me to take a chance on going back to school without the risk of massive student debt if I didn’t like it.”
That investment from generous donors through the N Fund – College of Law Scholarships gave Landaverde the confidence to pursue her goals. As she discovered her passion for the law, scholarship support gave her the flexibility to fully engage in the law school experience.
Instead of balancing multiple jobs to cover tuition costs, Landaverde devoted her time to leadership, service and academic excellence. She served as president of the Federal Bar Association, articles editor for the Nebraska Law Review and dedicated additional time to the First Amendment Clinic.
She organized volunteers to support Lincoln Southwest High School’s We the People team and completed a semester-long federal judicial externship, an experience that helped launch her into a federal clerkship after graduation.
For Landaverde, donor support did not simply make these opportunities easier. It made them possible.
“If not for the scholarship, I wouldn’t have taken the chance to go to law school,” she said.
Landaverde graduated from the college in May 2025. Looking back, she said the generosity of donors changed the trajectory of her life.
“I am so grateful that I was able to get a scholarship and go to UNL Law,” she said. “Receiving a full ride truly changed my life, and I don’t know what my career would look like had I not received it.”
